For South Carolina municipalities, technology offers the opportunity to make citizens’ lives less stressful by providing easy ways to pay tax bills and parking tickets, and efficient ways to issue permits and other services. However, with today’s enhanced technologies, the threat of a cyber attack on every municipality has increased, leaving municipalities wondering how to manage IT costs while better protecting themselves.
The purpose of defining a Minimum Baseline of Cybersecurity for Municipalities is to encourage municipalities to improve their cybersecurity posture, inspire collaboration, and engage with other cities and towns to strengthen cybersecurity resiliency. These “basics” can be done fairly inexpensively, but require an investment of time for municipal employees.
